Was born in 1859 with her christening taking place 5th May 1859 at St. Mary Magdelene Church, Cobham. The 1861 census shows that Emma, now aged 2, lived with her family on the farm in Cobham. The 1861 census also shows that her father Thomas’ farm was still thriving, covering 700 acres, employing 44 men, with partners and children and 12 boys. By 1871 at th e age of 12, Emma Jane was a boarding pupil at St. Marys 370, Wandsworth Road, Clapham with her sister Frances and by 1881 was living back home at Jeskyns Court Farm. By 1891 the census shows Emma Jane and her family living at the Parsonage Farm. By 1901, it appears that Emma Jane Steven’s father Thomas has passed (29th January 1893), leaving his surviving relatives, Emma Jane, her mother, two sisters and three house servants. The 1911 census shows Emma Jane (aged 52) living with her two surviving sisters all of whom declare they live by independent means. The independent means were likely provided from their mother Frances (nee Pye) Stevens inheritance, who passed away 1906. Emma Jane continued to live the rest of her life in Cobham and died peacefully at the Parsonage, Cobham Kent on 9th February 1953 aged 94. Her estate was priced at £122,541, 14 shillings and 8 pence (approx equivalent value today would be £8.5 million - 2012).
